Fran Tapia is a DC-based Chilean actor, singer, dancer, and educator. A 2025 DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities Fellow, she is a four-time Helen Hayes Award winner: Outstanding Lead Performer in a Musical for Professor Woland’s Black Magic Rock Show, Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Musical for On Your Feet! En Español, and Outstanding Ensemble awards for Troublemaker and Head Over Heels. She was also recognized with the 2025 BroadwayWorld Washington, DC Award for Best Performer for Evita’s Return. Fran has become a distinctive presence in the DC theatre community through her dynamic, multidisciplinary work as both performer and creator. In 2025, she premiered Unreleased, her first solo concert featuring original music, at Spooky Action Theater. Recent DC credits include Head Over Heels (Constellation Theatre Company), Botiquín de Boleros and Mummy in the Closet (GALA Hispanic Theatre), The Dragon and Professor Woland’s Black Magic Rock Show (Spooky Action Theater), and Folger Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet, as well as Reading Room Festival presentations of Hamlet and Cymbeline. Regional credits include In the Heights (Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival) and Laughs in Spanish (1st Stage).
